Bloomberg Connects Slack Community

The Bloomberg Connects Slack workspace is a place for cultural partners to share ideas, questions, and challenges around the Bloomberg Connects program. Participation in this workspace is purely voluntary for partners, but we are committed to making it a vibrant and useful forum for all who choose to participate.
For questions about Slack features and functionality, check out the extensive Slack Help Center.

The Slack invitation is only for members of the Bloomberg Connects community. If you are interested in inviting additional colleagues from your institution, reach out to your Bloomberg Connects partnership manager.

Introducing Yourself

Consider giving a wave 👋 and saying hi in the #general channel.

There is no set rule for how you introduce yourself to the Slack Community, but consider including:

  • Your name
  • Your role/title
  • The name and location of your institution
  • A few sentences about what your organization is all about
  • A fun fact about your organization
  • When you plan to launch your guide (if you have that general date established)

Feel free to share more - or less - as it suits you.

Key Channels

#General: This is where we’ll post new programming and other announcements that apply to everyone.

#Support: If you’re having any technical issues with the app or have any product-related questions, share them here.

#Marketing: Ask questions about marketing your guide - or marketing in general!

#Promotions: Share and learn about upcoming events, programming, and content.

#Random: Have a question for the community about pretty much anything? This is the place to ask!

Cohort Channels: Your cohort leader will create a dedicated Slack channel for your cohort where they will share key information and where you can engage with your peer organizations.

Tips & Tricks

  • You can access Slack via the desktop app, mobile app, or web browser.
  • Slack uses “channels” as opposed to email chains, so the community has transparency into past conversations on a topic.
  • When you first join the workspace, you will join a select group of channels. If you want, you can join additional channels.
  • Access your channels and conversations in the left-hand menu.
  • You can send a message to an individual or an entire channel.
  • Files and conversations are searchable across channels, time zones, and functions.
  • Slack notifications can be set up so you only receive notifications when you are “tagged.” You can tag someone by typing “@” and then that person’s name in a message (e.g., “Loved the museum’s audio tour, @john”)
  • Include “@here” in your message to notify the subscribers of an entire channel (use this sparingly!).

Community Standards

  • Bloomberg Philanthropies will moderate this Slack channel. We reserve the right to remove any content deemed inappropriate or offensive without notification. Bloomberg Philanthropies is not responsible for, and does not endorse, any content or opinions posted by partner users in the channel.
  • Do not post intellectual property or confidential information, including personal information, that is not yours to share.
  • Some of your personal information may be visible to other users of this Slack channel. Be mindful of the information you are willing to share.
  • Do not use this Slack workspace for marketing purposes. If you'd like to share what's going on with your institution, please use the #promotions channel.
  • Keep conversations appropriate and on-topic.
  • You should use the private message function when you have a question specific to another community member or the topic of conversation might not apply to everyone. But keep in mind that Slack channels are also a resource for all partners to benefit from, so please consider sharing relevant topics with the wider community in the appropriate channel.
  • Be solution oriented. If you don’t know the answer to a question but know someone who likely does, tag them in the relevant thread.
  • Use inclusive language. Please keep preferred pronouns in mind.
