Tech Preparations

As a Bloomberg Connects partner, the content management system (CMS) you'll use to create your digital guide and the mobile app that you'll use to deliver it to your visitors are completely free of charge. A team of engineers, UX experts, and researchers ensures round-the-clock technical support and a steady stream of feature enhancements that respond to the needs of the community.

All you need to do is supply the content!

To ensure you have your technical toolkit ready to go, take a moment to do the following.

On your computer:

  • Bookmark the Bloomberg Connects CMS in Google Chrome. Chrome is the only officially-supported browser for the CMS, so if you choose to work in another browser, like Safari, you may notice unexpected behavior or bugs. For a brief introduction to the CMS, see CMS Overview.
  • Join the Bloomberg Connects Slack community. Reach out to your partnership manager for an invitation link. Learn more about using Slack, and read our community guidelines, here.
  • Sign in to the Bloomberg Connects Rev.com Workspace. Reach out to your partnership manager for credentials. You can use this service to create transcripts, subtitles, and captions at no charge to you.

Bloomberg Connects Slack Community

Overview

The Bloomberg Connects Slack workspace is a place for cultural partners to share ideas, questions, and challenges around the Bloomberg Connects program. Participation in this workspace is purely voluntary for partners, but we are committed to making it a vibrant and useful forum for all who choose to participate.

For questions about Slack features and functionality, check out the extensive Slack Help Center.

The Slack invitation is only for members of the Bloomberg Connects community. If you are interested in inviting additional colleagues from your institution, reach out to your Bloomberg Connects partnership manager.

Getting Started

  1. In your invitation email (subject line: “Join the Bloomberg Connects Community on Slack”), click Join Now.
  2. On the Slack sign-up page, set your full name and familiarize yourself with the Slack Privacy Policy and terms of service.
  3. Set up two-factor authentication to keep the workspace secure.
  4. In the top right corner, click Launch.
  5. Complete your profile. Add your title and affiliation to the Title field (e.g., “Marketing Manager, Museum of ABC”)

Tips & Tricks

  • You can access Slack via the desktop app, mobile app, or web browser.
  • Slack uses “channels” as opposed to email chains, so the community has transparency into past conversations on a topic.
  • When you first join the workspace, you will join a select group of channels. If you want, you can join additional channels.
  • Access your channels and conversations in the left-hand menu.
  • You can send a message to an individual or an entire channel.
  • Files and conversations are searchable across channels, time zones, and functions.
  • Slack notifications can be set up so you only receive notifications when you are “tagged.” You can tag someone by typing “@” and then that person’s name in a message (e.g., “Loved the museum’s audio tour, @john”)
  • Include “@here” in your message to notify the subscribers of an entire channel (use this sparingly!).

Community Standards

  • Bloomberg Philanthropies will moderate this Slack channel. We reserve the right to remove any content deemed inappropriate or offensive without notification. Bloomberg Philanthropies is not responsible for, and does not endorse, any content or opinions posted by partner users in the channel.
  • Do not post intellectual property or confidential information, including personal information, that is not yours to share.
  • Some of your personal information may be visible to other users of this Slack channel. Be mindful of the information you are willing to share.
  • Do not use this Slack workspace for marketing purposes. If you'd like to share what's going on with your institution, please use the #promotions channel.
  • Keep conversations appropriate and on-topic.
  • You should use the private message function when you have a question specific to another community member or the topic of conversation might not apply to everyone. But keep in mind that Slack channels are also a resource for all partners to benefit from, so please consider sharing relevant topics with the wider community in the appropriate channel.
  • Be solution oriented. If you don’t know the answer to a question but know someone who likely does, tag them in the relevant thread.
  • Use inclusive language. Please keep preferred pronouns in mind.
