Asset guidelines

Use the guidelines below to make sure that all media assets that you upload to the CMS work well in the Bloomberg Connects app.

Tip: All media is re-encoded during the upload and is resized for delivery in the app. For audio and video files, this means you can upload the highest-quality file you have. For images, upload the highest-quality file that is within the supported size.

Media Type Notes
Image

JPEG and PNG are supported. HEIC/HEIF are not supported.

Minimum dimensions: 720 pixels on the longer side.

Maximum size: 64 megapixels (MP).

After upload, image files are encoded for delivery in the app using the following rules:

  • Format: JPEG
    • PNG files with transparency are flattened. Transparent areas appear gray. Only logo files stay PNG.
  • Size: 4MP (maximum)
Audio

MP3 and WAV are supported.

Recommended duration: 60-90 seconds.

After upload, audio files are encoded for delivery in the app using the following rules:

  • Format: MP3
  • Bitrate: Variable (VBR). Generally results in bitrates of 64-90 kbps, depending on content.
  • Channels: Preserved. A stereo master stays stereo and a mono master stays mono.
  • Tool: LAME MP3 Encoder FFmpeg (libmp3lame)

All metadata is removed from the audio file during upload.
Video

MP4, MOV, AVI, and WEBM are supported.

After upload, video files are encoded for delivery in the app using the following rules:

  • Format: MP4
  • Video resolution: 720p
  • Video bitrate: 1.5Mbps
  • Video encoder: libx264
  • Audio coding standard: AAC
  • Audio channels: 2 (Stereo)
  • Audio sample rate: 48000Hz
  • Audio bitrate: 128k
